Central Plains Middle School receives grant

BUSHTON -Central Plains Middle School has received a Power Up Grant from Kansas Team Nutrition. Kansas Team Nutrition said, "(The CPMS) grant will include an 8-week health education program for middle school students (in eighth grade.) This program will be to equip students with the knowledge to make healthier choices by encouraging consumption of healthy foods, supporting regular physical activity, teaching students to make their own healthy snacks, and building healthy self-esteem."

Star of Hope begins disaster relief in Philippines

ELLINWOOD - Star of Hope begins disaster relief and recovery operations in response to the intense human suffering caused by typhoon Haiyan. Star of Hope Philippines staff have identified the city of Ormoc, Leyte, as the location where Star of Hope efforts will be the most effective. Planning is underway to bring effective help to the people there.

State Health Care Websites are Failures, Too

The federal Healthcare.gov website, serving 36 states that chose not to build their own sites, has been - to quote its boss, Kathleen Sebelius - a "debacle." Its estimated cost to taxpayers stands at $394 million so far and will likely rise as the "tech surge" pours millions of additional taxpayer dollars into trying to fix the site. But federal taxpayers are on the hook for a sum more than 10 times greater - $4.3 billion - for state exchange websites. And some of them are even more spectacular failures than the federal site.
