Pinewood Derby races to the finish

The Kanza District, Quivira Council Boy Scouts of America held its annual District Pinewood Derby on Sunday, April 7 at the First Presbyterian Church in Great Bend with over 200 Scouts and their families in attendance.

E. Pearl Carson 1913 - 2013

E. Pearl Carson, 99, died April 7 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Dec. 22, 1913 in Wilcox, Ariz., she was the daughter of John Smith and Suzie Stahl. On Dec. 21, 1929 she married Russell Augusta Carson in Oklahoma City, Okla. He died in 1968. An Ellinwood resident for the past 10 years, and a Barton County resident since 1945, formerly of Oklahoma, she was retired from Fuller Brush. She also worked in food service and did baby-sitting. She was an avid gardener.

Kenneth Wayne Pack, Jr., 55, died April 5, at his home in Great Bend. Born Oct. 21, 1957 in Urbana, Ohio, he was the son of Kenneth Wayne and Nancy (Stevens) Pack.
