LIBERAL - Daniel Joseph Penney, 61, of Liberal, passed away Tuesday from a sudden illness. Dan was born Dec. 28, 1949 at Great Bend. He went to school and worked there until 1968, when he moved to Kansas City, Mo. In 1983, he met his wife, Louise and moved to the rural Liberal, Mo. area.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood School Board heard at its regular meeting this week that a local business is raising funds to donate an electronic scoreboard for the football field. The estimated cost is $16,000. The old one is from 1987 but was beginning to show its age, said Superintendent Ben Jacobs.
ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood High School Debaters Connor Birzer and Jenna Snell won the open division of the Arrowhead Invitational Tournament held at Hays High School on Sat., Oct. 8. The duo posted a 5-0 win-loss record and was the only team in the open division to have a perfect record. In the novice division, Rachel Doll and Rachel Schloctermeier also went 5-0 and placed 2nd, missing first place by only a few speaker points. Bernice L. (Walters) King, 80, passed away at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood on Nov. 20. She was born May 27, 1934, in Catherine, to Marcellus and Severina (Karlin) Walters.
ELLINWOOD – Charles "Chuck" Frydendall, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in Ellinwood on Nov. 17. Born Jan. 20, 1928, near Portis, Chuck was the oldest son of Milo and Bessie Frydendall.
ODIN - Anna M. Klug, 84, died Nov. 19 at Via Christi Hospital on St. Francis in Wichita. Born July 23, 1930, in Dubuque, she was the daughter of John and Regina (Schmidt) Werner. On June 4, 1947, she married Leo L. Klug, in Odin. He died on May 28, 1999. She was the postmaster at Odin. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who was all about family. She loved gardening, playing games, and cooking for her family.
