Velda L. Brittain 1935 - 2011

Velda L. Brittain, 76, died Dec. 6. She took her last breath at home surrounded by family. Born Aug. 12, 1935, at Cushing, Okla., she was the daughter of Walter and Arkie (Bunch) McMahan. She was a graduate of Cushing High School. She married Robert L. "Bob" Brittain Jan. 1, 1954, at Cushing, Oklahoma.

US-56 pavement widening and box bridge project in Lyons set to begin

Starting around Monday, March 2, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) will begin a project to replace the concrete box bridge on the west side of Century Road and widen US-56 to four lanes from the end of the existing four lane roadway west to the entrance to the airport. Project construction is scheduled to be completed in September, depending on delays due to adverse weather conditions.

For example, they acclaim Governor Rick Perry's conservative leadership and praise Texas' lack of a state income tax. Their high regard for our southerly neighbor may explain why our legislature is considering whether Kansas should switch to Texas' system for selecting Supreme Court justices.
