HOLYROOD - Ben Walter Turner, 84, died Dec. 10 at Holyrood. Born Oct. 1, 1926, in Pawhuska, Okla., he was the son of Harold Clifford and Rachel Irene (McNatt) Turner. A resident of Holyrood for 16 years, coming from Herington, he was a laborer. On Sept. 23, 1950, he married Cornelia Joyce (McBride) at Red Lodge, Mont.

David F. Ellis, 58, of Great Bend, died Dec. 11 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. He was born Nov. 21, 1952, at Great Bend, the son of Clifford John and Laverne L. (Lewis) Ellis.
Nadine Christiansen
Nadine Christiansen, 83, of Great Bend, died Dec. 12 at Great Bend Regional Hospital. She was born Jan. 5, 1927, in Barton County, the daughter of Virgil and Lucille (Newkirk) Amerine. She married Gerald J. Christiansen July 14, 1946, at Great Bend. A lifetime Great Bend resident, she was a homemaker.

SMYRNA, Tenn. - Alan Delaine Meyers, 46, died Dec. 11 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, Tenn. He was born March 21, 1964, at Russell, the son of Delaine F. and Donna M. HICKORY, N.C. - Dr. Keith Melvin Ochs, "Doc", 74, died peacefully at home on Dec. 6, due to declining health. Keith was born, Sept. 24, 1936, in Great Bend, to the late Melvin C. Ochs and Emma Schneider Ochs. He was employed by Lenoir-Rhyne University during the years of 1970 until his retirement in 1996. High winds disturb traffic
High winds created problems for motorists Saturday morning, the Barton County Sheriff's Office reports. 4-H shooters place 2nd at state
The Barton County team of Ryan Kohman, Parker Smith, Katelyn Reh and Lake Lyman placed 2nd in the state at the recent State 4-H Air Rifle Competition. The 4-H Shooting Sports Program uses the skills and disciplines of shooting to assist young people and their leaders to attain knowledge and develop essential life skills.

Pheasants Forever is hosting fifty-one informational meetings across Kansas for landowners and agricultural producers in advance of the USDA Farm Service Agency's Conservation Reserve Program general sign-up that runs May 20 through June 14. Led by Pheasants Forever Farm Bill Wildlife Biologists, landowners can learn how to increase their farm or ranch income while creating wildlife habitat in the process.
