BCC women hand Central Methodist loss

Full court pressure defense turned the tide Friday as the Barton Community College women's basketball team won handily 70-55 over the junior varsity squad from Central Methodist University in the opening game of Hutch Pawn and Jewelry Classic at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Barton improves to 4-2 on the season heading into Saturday's 1:30 p.m. game against 4-3 Murray State College to wrap up the two-game classic.

After nearly three decades practicing obstetrics and gynecology in the Great Bend area, Dr. Roger Marshall is shifting his focus to specialize on gynecology as of Jan. 1, 2016. To recognize him for his dedicated service to mothers and families in our community, Great Bend Regional Hospital will host a special milestone reception from 11 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 5 at GBRH. The come-and-go event will be geared toward mothers and their children.

Special guests at the Unified School District 428 Board of Education meeting Monday night were the Great Bend High School fall sports participants who were recently named All-Conference Athletes. Activities Director David Meter acknowledged the fall-season achievements, and coaches then introduced students, most of whom were present. SHAWNEE - Patty Sue Mauler, 68, died on Nov. 9, 2015, at her home. Born Feb. 26, 1947, in Lafayette Township, Mo., she was the daughter of Paul and Helen (Riley) Stagner. She graduated from high school in Faucett, Mo., and attended Missouri Western College. She was employed at Guys Foods in Liberty, Mo., for several years and retired in 2012 from Coca Cola.
