SHARON SPRINGS - Wallace County halfback Luke Schemm scored four touchdowns and rushed for 209 yards before collapsing on the sidelines after a successful 2-pointer against Otis-Bison. A few hours later, Schemm died in a Denver hospital.

Local, state gas prices fall

Average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have fallen 5.6 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.13 Sunday, according to GasBuddy's daily survey of 1,329 gas outlets in Kansas. This compares with the national average that has fallen 1.1 cents per gallon in the last week to $2.18.

Rosary in the Sky

The St. Joseph School children, teachers and parish members gathered to pray the rosary on Monday, Oct. 19th in the Parish Center. The month of October was dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, and the daily recitation of the rosary was encouraged. The 75 students of St. Joseph School, ranging in age from kindergarten through 8th grade, stood silently and reverently as the rosary was prayed.

GREAT BEND - Maurice J. "Morris" Haberman, 67, died Nov. 2, 2015, at Kansas Medical Center in Andover. Born March 9, 1948, he was the son of Alex J. and Augusta J. (Koriel) Haberman. In 1966, he graduated from Great Bend High School. In 1970, he received his Bachelors in Industrial Arts from Fort Hays State College. On April 28, 1979, he married Patricia K. Moeder in Hoisington. She survives. A lifetime resident of Barton County, he was a farmer and stockman. He was a loving father and good grounded person who chose to be an organ donor so that he ...

Jury finds Davis not guilty

A jury in Barton County District Court found Jacob Ryan Davis not guilty on all counts late Wednesday morning. Davis was charged with four counts of aggravated assault, stemming from an altercation that happened around 2 a.m. on Nov. 2, 2014, at Charlie's Place bar in Great Bend.
