Kummer recognized as top State President for 2010-2011

Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) International held their annual International Convention July 18-23, at the Sheraton Hotel and Convention Center Overland Park. Lisa and Bob Baum, Coleen and Ira Cape, and Kim and Steve Kummer attended from Great Bend. Cape served as the convention chair of the 64th Annual Convention, Sunflower Serenade for the 500 attendees. Reichel Family Reunion

Sixty-nine members of the George Sr. and Mary Reichel family gathered on July 9 and 10, for a family reunion. The larger group met on Sunday at the Community Building in Rush Center. They joined in the Lord's Prayer and a delicious meal prepared by descendants of Mary and Ferdinand Foos was served. Don Simmons furnished a large decorated carrot cake honoring the July 10 birthday of Martie Dial.

Kay Leadership Camp

Approximately 275 Kays and Kayettes from across the state of Kansas gathered at Rock Springs 4-H Center, in Junction City, on July 25-29, for a "SUPERFANTASTIC" session of KAY (Kansas Association for Youth) Leadership Camp. The KAY Camp is a character-building, leadership-training program directed by the Kansas State High School Activities Association and is designed for all students in grades 7-12.

Narrowbanding deadline nears for Mobile Radio Operators

Farmers, fleet operators, schools and government agencies operating business band or Private Land Mobile Radio (PLMR) systems are facing a critical Jan. 1, 2013, deadline. By that date, the FCC has mandated that all private PLMR licensees operating below 512 MHz move to 12.5 kHz narrowband voice channels.

Robert (Bob) Raymond Ewald 1931 - 2013

BILLINGS, Mo. - Robert (Bob) Raymond Ewald, 81, passed away on May 2, in Billings, Mo. He was born on July 30, 1931 in Great Bend. On June 4, 1954, he married Shirley Joan Ewald (Wolfe) in Ellinwood. He worked at Blount Industries for 20 years.
