Disc golf tourney to take place Aug. 17

The inaugural Windy Hill Disc Golf Tournament is set for Saturday, Aug. 17, at Barton Community College as a fundraiser to benefit Relay for Life of Barton County. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and tee-off is at 9 a.m. for the 18-hole tourney. Entry fee is $10 per person and hole sponsorships are available for $50.

Great Bend Alzheimer’s Walk

Great Bend will host an Alzheimer's Walk on Saturday, Oct. 5, with registration to begin at 1 p.m. followed by the opening ceremony at Barton County Courthouse and Jack Kilby Square. Linus H. Schmeidler 1926 - 2013

HAYS - Linus H. Schmeidler, 87, died Aug. 4, at the Hays Medical Center. Born on July 8, 1926 on the family farm at Severin, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth (Windholz) Schmeidler. In 1944 he graduated from St. Joseph Military Academy. On Sept. 14, 1957, he married LuVerna K. Stroemel at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Walker. He worked at Travenol in Hays and was also a floor covering installer for Vitzum's Incorporated for many years.
