Cheryl (Dunlap)Rugan candidate for USD 428 School Board

Cheryl (Dunlap) Rugan has announced her candidacy for USD 428 board of education. She considers herself a concerned mother of children in the public school system, far from a politician. However, after consideration of the importance of sound leadership and the impact that the USD 428 school board has on our children and the community, she has a vested interest to get involved. "I would approach the school board position with no hidden agenda, but ...

Now when schools, disabled persons and so many others are suffering from state budget cuts, special interests should be required to wear a big sign around their necks, announcing that the Kansas Legislature exempts them from sales taxes that the rest of us must pay. Ask Department ...

Many helped after accident

Dear Editor, I just wanted to thank God for my daughter, Danielle. I have never been as scared as the minutes that followed the horrible accident that we had Monday evening. Danni was hit so hard on impact that she would not respond to me, she was knocked out completely. God sent down angels in the form of every-day people, who stopped driving, and helped my daughter, granddaughter and myself get out of the trapped ...

Will George W. Bush and A.J. Clemente Get Mulligans?

When should you give someone a mulligan? Should you give a former President a mulligan for a good chunk of his 8 years in office? Should you give a young broadcaster a mulligan when he doesn't realize his mike is on and he says words more suitable for a Chris Rock routine?

Wisconsin cheese in another form ... where have you been?

When our son Connor moved to Madison two years ago I was prepared for an introduction to all things Wisconsin. This was not entirely a blank slate - I was schooled on Fez and Red Forman from "That '70s Show," heard a little bit about their governor and some yelling that went on up there. But I didn't appreciate a food delicacy that has awakened taste buds left for dead long ago.
