St. John top-seed at Mid-Winter Classic

Defending Mid-Winter Classic champion St. John (9-0) drew the top seed, but innovative scheduling gives the unbeaten Tigers three games next week. St. John will open against the Pratt-Macksville loser at 4:45 p.m. But the Tigers will still play in Friday's second semifinal game at 8:15 p.m. against the Pratt-Macksville winner, which is scheduled Tuesday. The other bracket matches Ness City against Nickerson and Larned versus winless Wichita West (0-8) in Thursday's games.

Rain, storms in forecast for Friday, Saturday

Severe Thunderstorms are possible today and tomorrow across central and south central Kansas. The main threats include hail up to the size of golfballs and damaging winds. There is also a small chance of a tornado, with the better chance being on Saturday. Across eastern Kansas a strong storm with small hail and gusts to 50 mph may be possible.

Fort Larned to showcase evolution of hunting

FORT LARNED - Everyone is invited to a historic program presented by the Fort Larned Old Guard on Saturday, April 25, at Fort Larned National Historic Site, funded in part by a grant from the Kansas Humanities Council.
