Ellinwood tennis ties for first

ELLIWOOD - Ellinwood High's No. 2 singles Caleb Robl (3-0) placed first and the Eagles earned three runner-up finishes to tie Salina Sacred Heart with 13 points at Thursday's Ellinwood Tennis Tournament. Robl beat players from Sacred Heart, Hutchinson Trinity and Fairfield.

Larned softball sweeps Panthers

HUTCHINSON - Larned's softball team overpowered winless Nickerson 12-2 and 15-3 for a doubleheader sweep at the Fun Valley complex. Nickerson committed 20 errors in the twin bill.

DODGE CITY - Ninth-grader Cole Streck led Great Bend with a 28th-place finish (86) at Thursdat's Dodge City Invitational at Mariah Hills Golf Course.

Panthers finish tennis runner-up

DODGE CITY - Great Bend's No. 2 singles Alex Smith (2-1) and No. 2 doubles Malachi Williams and Hayden Honomichl (2-1) both finished second in the Dodge City Tennis Invitational. Garden City (26) finished first followed by Great Bend (15) marking its best performance of the season.

Panther runners compete at KU Relays

LAWRENCE - Great Bend's returning state runner-up Kerby Depenbusch placed 10th (4:27.89) as the second-fastest Kansan runner in Saturday's KU Relays. Wichita Collegiate's 3A state champion Laklin Conrad finished ninth (4:27.72). The top eight runners were from Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma ad Nebraska.

Larned athletes win two events at Kingman

KINGMAN - Larned's Katie Fischer won the high jump (5-2) and teammate Cierra Nord captured the 3,200 meters (14:16.28) at Tuesday's Kingman Track Invitational. Fischer placed second (5-2) in the 4A state high jump last year.

Cougar, Oiler win two events at Russell

RUSSELL - Otis-Bison's Blake Bahr and Central Plains Oiler Alex Barton were double winners at the Wilson Track Invitational held at Russell High School. Otis-Bison placed second (92) and Central Plains third (91) behind champion Ell-Saline (137).

GARDEN CITY - Garden City's girls soccer team edged Great Bend 2-1 in Tuesday's hard-fought Western Athletic Conference game. Garden City won the first meeting 4-0 at Great Bend. The Panthers (3-4, 1-4 WAC) play Hays-Thomas More Prep at 5 p.m. Thursday.
