Larned girls win Ellsworth tennis tournament

ELLSWORTH - Larned's No. 1 singles Kristin Anderson (4-0) and No. 2 doubles Macy Haas and Katelynn Sanger (3-1) placed first to help the Indians win Tuesday's Ellsworth Tournament with 31 points. Anderson won her matches against Clay Center, Hoisington, Hillsboro and Ellsworth.

Ellinwood football moves to Class 2A

ELLINWOOD -- The Ellinwood Eagles knew their time in 8-man football would be temporary. After four years in 8-man football, Ellinwood's enrollment of 116 in junior, sophomore and ninth-classes will force the Eagles to play 11-man football for post-season in 2018 and 2019.

St. John drops to Class 1A

TOPEKA -- Perennial basketball powerhouse St. John High School will drop from 2A to 1A in new classifications announced by the Kansas State High School Activities Association. St. John has 91 students at the high school.

LARNED -The St. John boys and Macksville girls swept first place and Larned's boys lost a tiebreaker for first place in the Abby Trapp-Prescott Cross Country Invitational. Runners competed in extreme heat with temperatures hitting 100 degrees and south winds blowing to 25 mph.
