LIBERAL - Great Bend's softball team rolled past Liberal 19-0 and 22-0 to open Western Athletic Conference play Thursday. Panther pitchers Hunter Marcum and Hannah Honomichl each threw one-hit shutouts. Liberal committed 16 errors in the twin bill.

Larned splits with Lyons

LARNED -- Larned's Erin Smith delivered the game-winning hit in the Indians ' 3-2 victory over Lyons. Smith's single drove home Haley Skelton for the game-winning hit. The Lions won the nightcap 11-0. Lyons is 5-2, 5-2 CKL and Larned is 2-8, 2-8 CKL.

Great Bend salvages baseball split on Tuesday

A six-rally saved a split for the Great Bend High School baseball team. The Panthers rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a six-run sixth inning for an 8-4 victory Tuesday over Garden City. The Buffaloes won the opener 10-6 behind four runs in the final two innings.

Larned baseball sweeps Halstead

HALSTEAD - Larned's Evan Skelton struck out seven batters to pitch the Indians to a 7-1 victory over Halstead. The Indians completed the sweep with an 8-5 baseball victory. Defending CKL champion Larned (4-0, 4-0 CKL) is tied for first place with Nickerson.

ARTON COUNTY - Larned High's Colton Massey earned his second consecutive medalist honor with a 78 Thursday at the Hoisington Golf Invitational at Lake Barton Golf Course. The players battled winds gusting past 30 mph and hard and fast greens.
