Hoisington routs Lyons to cruise into playoffs

LYONS - Tailback Hunter Hanzlick and Steffan Dolechek each scored two touchdowns as Hoisington steamed past Lyons 40-7 to cruise into the Class 3A football playoffs. The Cardinals (9-0, 3-0) will play Cimarron at home Tuesday in the Class 3A playoffs.

Panther soccer to play Liberal

Great Bend's soccer team will get a back-to-back rematch with Liberal in Class 5A regional soccer after losing 5-2 last week in Great Bend. Great Bend (6-10) will travel to Liberal (10-6) for a 6 p.m. game Tuesday.

Ellinwood girls win regional

HILL CITY - Ellinwood's girls won the Hill City Class 2A cross country regional with 26 points to return to Class 2A state at Wamego. Abbie Reichuber placed third (20:57.72) and Joanna Strecker was fourth (21:08.65).

Mustangs pose obstacle for Panthers

The Great Bend Panthers passed their first Class 5A District 6 football test with flying colors, a 53-21 victory over Newton. The Salina Central Mustangs failed miserably, losing a 21-point lead in a 42-35 loss to rival Salina South. Great Bend beat Salina Central 27-13 in 2011.
