LARNED - Defending Central Kansas League baseball champion Larned showed the heart of a champion by rallying for an 11-10 second-game victory over rival Pratt High School. Mason Burris singled home courtesy runner Mello Bryant for the game-winning walkoff run.
Great Bend pitcher Hunter Marcum was close to perfection in a dominating 8-0 and 11-0 sweep of Liberal High School. She struck out 18 batters and retired 21 of 22 batters in a no-hit opener. Kaeleah Chaloupek reached on a hit batter.
Great Bend junior sprinter LaCora Bryant posted career-best times and earned a pair of victories in the 100 (12.39) and 200 (25.99) meters in Tuesday's Great Bend Track Invitational. It marked the first time Bryant has sprinted the 200 meters under 26 seconds.
GARDEN CITY - Great Bend combined solid pitching and defense for a stunning doubleheader sweep of Garden City 3-1 and 4-3. The defending Western Athletic Conference champions rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the nightcap.
By the time, Hoisington High relievers Collin Schlochtermeier and Braxton Donovan restored order, it was too little, too late. Donovan capped his shutout outing by picking off Carter Payne at first base.
HAYS - Great Bend's Kelby Titus shot 6-over-par 77 to place fourth in Tuesday's Hays High Bob Blazer Golf Invitational. Play started with temperatures in the low 50s accompanied by a brisk wind and drizzle. It ended in rainy weather the last four holes at Smoky Hill Country Club.
GODDARD - Lightning and rain postponed Tuesday's scheduled baseball doubleheader between Great Bend and Goddard just in the nick of time. Goddard led 3-0 after 11/2 innings when play was delayed by lightning. After a half-hour delay, the game was postponed by rain. The Panthers hit into two double plays in two innings.
