Larned’s golfers qualify for 4A state

HAYS - Larned's Colton Massey overcame a nightmarish 10 at No. 13, but rallied for an 81 to earn his fourth consecutive trip to the state golf tournament at Smoky Hill Country Club. Massey birdied Nos. 2, 5 and 14. Larned's Braeden Corman finished ninth (85) and Brandon Bartz placed 10th (87). Hunter Barker (113), Jacob Simmons (115) and Colton Schmidt (118) also qualified for 4A state May 22 at Wamego Country Club.

Oiler qualifies for 2A state

SALINA - Central Plains Oiler Bryce Miller shot an 85 to qualify as an individual for the Class 2A state golf tournament. Salina Sacred Heart won the team title (290). Tate Herrenbruck earned medalist honors with a birdie on the first playoff hole against Grant Herrenbruck after they tied with 1-over-par 71s.

Panther golfer earns medalist honors

NEWTON - Great Bend's Kelby Titus captured medalist honors to earn a return trip to the Class 5A state golf tournament at Newton's Sand Creek Station. Titus is the first regional champion for Great Bend since Jake Klima in 1998.

GARDEN CITY - The Central Plains boys tennis team rode a runner-up finish by doubles team of Kade Beck and Brett Liebl to the runner-up Class 3-1A state tennis trophy.

Great Bend swimmers win WAC title

HAYS - Great Bend standout Camryn Dunekack captured the 50 freestyle (25.45) and 100 freestyle (56.1) and anchored the winning 200 free relay and 400 free relay to lead the Panther girls to the Western Athletic Conference swimming meet.

LIBERAL - Great Bend's Kelby Titus continued strong play in the Western Athletic Conference with a fifth-place finish (72) Tuesday that earned him All-WAC honors. Titus earned All-WAC honors for the second consecutive season.

LARNED - Larned's Haley Skelton drilled a three-run homer and drove home five runs to spark the Indians to a 5-2 Central Kansas League softball victory over Lyons. The Lions won the nightcap 9-7 to salvage a split.

KINGMAN - Larned's Colton Massey shot 2-over par 74 to defend his Central Kansas League golf championship. Larned won the team title (331) by defeating perennial champion Hesston (342) at Kingman's Eagles Golf Course.

Liberal baseball sweeps Great Bend

LIBERAL - Liberal's baseball team overpowered Great Bend 11-1 and 14-2 with timely hitting and efficient pitching to sweep a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader. The Redskins roughed up Great Bend's top two pitchers Logan Perry (2-4) and Bryce Lytle (2-2) with big innings.

St. John Tigers sweep CPL golf

STAFFORD COUNTY - St. John's Cole Kinnamon birdied four holes and shot 8-over-par 78 to earn medalist honors and lead the Tigers to the Central Prairie Golf Championship at the Stafford County Country Club. Kinnamon birdied Nos. 5, 7, 9 and 12 to help offset six bogeys and three double bogeys.

Haven softball sweeps Hoisington girls

HAVEN - Haven outlasted Hoisington 7-4 in a wild opener and beat the Cardinals 15-0 in the nightcap in Friday's Central Kansas League doubleheader sweep. Haven (15-3) secures second place in the CKL and Hoisington (8-9) plays CKL champion Pratt (15-1) at home Tuesday.
