ST. JOHN – The St. John girls relied on a team effort to outlast Otis-Bison 36-35 to finish as the Central Prairie League runner-up. The Tigers outscored the Cougars 21-16 in the fourth quarter for a comeback victory.

PARK CITY - No. 3 state-ranked Drew Liles (37-7, 113) and No. 5 George Weber (39-9) will headline the eight Great Bend Panther qualifiers for the 5A state championship that starts Friday at Hartman Arena.

HAYS - Hoisington's High's two-time defending state champion Christopher Ball (40-1, 152) and his five teammates will wrestle first-round matches Friday at Fort Hays State University. No. 1 ranked Christopher Ball meets Hoxie's Wylie Weems (16-17). Ball beat Smith Center's No. 2 ranked Colton Hutchinson 2-0 in the regional finals. Ball would be paired with Colby's No. 4 ranked Sean Rall (36-4) in the semifinals.

Five Cardinals sweep wrestling titles

HOISINGTON -Two-time defending state champion Christopher Ball (40-1, 152) led five Hoisington Cardinals to regional championships Saturday at Hoisington. Ball defeated Smith Center's No. 2 ranked Colton Hutchinson 2-0 in the finals. Christopher Ball captured the 152-pound state titles the past two years and finished runner-up in 2015.
