Literacy program coming to Great Bend

Humphrey the hamster is coming to Great Bend to promote connectivity and literacy to children and their families. Humphrey is a amazing little guy who is very smart, and spends his day at a school helping children understand the world around them, and on weekends he gets to go home with a student and see how these humans live when they are not in school. Humphrey is the main character in the book "The World According to Humphrey" by Betty G. Birney. The book will be read in the Literacy program called One District, One Book this fall for grades ...

'Summer of KAOS' comes to the Crest Theater

Drug Enforcement Operation conducted in Ellinwood

ELLINWOOD -- On Friday, a multi-agency drug enforcement operation was conducted in the city of Ellinwood at 515 S, Bismark. Police officers from Great Bend and Ellinwood along with deputies from the Barton County sheriff's office, and special agents from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation were part of the operation. The Great Bend Police department drug detecting canine named "Kia" also responded to the scene at the request of Ellinwood.

35th Infantry Division Band comes to Great Bend

The Kansas Army National Guard 35 Infantry Division Band will present a free Home Front Concert at the Jack Kilby Square to honor and thank all those who have served our country. The celebration begins at 6 p.m. on Monday, June, 22.
