Broadway Avenue waterline replacement project to begin

The City of Great Bend Administration and Engineering departments would like the public to be aware of the next phase for the waterline project. This project will begin this week and consists of the water main replacement on Broadway Avenue from Main to Harrison streets.

Lawrence Emil Demel 1931-2017

HOISINGTON - Lawrence Emil Demel, 85, died Nov. 5, 2017, at the Woodhaven Care Center, Ellinwood. He was born Nov. 24, 1931 at rural Redwing, to Alois and Christina (Schneweis) Demel. Lawrence married Sidone (Demel) Oct. 4, 1955 at Beaver. She survives.

County announces Veterans Day closings

Barton County Office Buildings will be closed on Friday in observance of Veterans Day, which falls on Saturday. The Health Department and the Records Division of the Sheriff's Office will also be closed that day.

James L. Philbern 1928 - 2017

James L. Philbern, 89, died Nov. 5, 2017, at home in Great Bend. He was born April 13, 1928 at Littleton, Colo., the son of Lou Frank and Pauline (Smith) Philbern. A lifetime resident of Great Bend, James worked in the oilfield for many years, being most recently employed by Murray Casing Crews, Inc. James was an avid fisherman and enjoyed playing cards.

Janet L. Deets 1955 - 2017

DODGE CITY - Janet L. Deets, 62, passed away Nov. 3, 2017, at her residence in Dodge City. She was born Jan. 25, 1955, in Larned, the daughter of Merwyn C. and Nadine Nauert Deets. A lifetime area resident she graduated from Larned High School and attended Fort Hays State University. She was in retail sales for JCPenney at Larned and Dodge City. The last 20 years were spent in the Jewelry Department.

Floy Leota “Lee” Webs 1931 - 2017

LACROSSE - Floy Leota "Lee" Webs, 86, died Saturday, Nov. 4, 2017, at Select Specialty Hospital in Wichita. Mrs. Webs was born May 8, 1931, in Van Zandt Co., Texas, the daughter of Alpha Omega and Della Victory (Morse) Cantrell. On Sept. 17, 1950, she married Lawrence Webs at Hays, Kansas. He preceded her in death in 1985.

Gerald Frank Hamilton 1934 - 2017

HOISINGTON - Gerald Frank Hamilton, 83, died Nov. 3, 2017, at Clara Barton Hospital in Hoisington. He was born July 24, 1934, in Moundridge, the son of Theodore Frank and Katherine (Head) Hamilton. Gerald graduated from Hoisington High School in 1953. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959. On July 18, 1975, he married Lucille Yager in Las Vegas, Nev. She preceded him in death on March 31, 1988. A longtime Hoisington resident, Gerald was a truck driver for Graves Truckline of Great Bend.
