Judy Ann Rusco 1941 - 2018

Judy Ann Rusco, 77, passed away April 9, 2018, at Abilene Memorial Hospital, Abilene, Kan. She was born February 4, 1941, at Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Walter Thomas and Margaret Bridgette Louise (Start) Chumley. Judy married Alfred Wayne Rusco January 1, 1960 at Ellinwood. He died July 3, 2006.

Zane K. Edwards 1929 - 2018

BISON - Zane K. Edwards, 88, Bison, Kan., died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kan. Mr. Edwards was born Aug. 16, 1929, in rural Bison, Kan., the son of Everett O. Edwards, Sr., and Frances (Bitter) Edwards. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kan. A 1947 graduate of Bison High School, Bison, Kan., he was a farmer.

It's been a decade since I agreed with the Democrat platform, but I must give the party a great deal of credit for its consistency. There is a direct correlation between Democrats in 2018 fighting to increase their political power by demanding vote-less illegal aliens be counted in the census to Democrats in 1818, who demanded equally vote-less slaves continue to be counted in the census to increase their political power.

Central Care Cancer Center hosts barbecue to benefit Relay For Life

The public is invited to attend the fourth annual "Pulled Pork & Chicken Feed," from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on April 17 at Central Care Cancer Center, formerly known as Heartland Cancer Center. The barbecue will be held in the Central Care parking lot, located at 204 Cleveland St., Great Bend. All proceeds from the barbecue benefit Relay for Life of Barton County. The cost is $5 per person and carry-out is available.

Pawnee County lifts burn ban

The Burn Ban has been lifted for Pawnee County as of 1 p.m. Monday, April 9, Pawnee County Information Officer Joel Davis announced. Burning of appropriate and approved materials is allowed at this time in Pawnee County until further notice.

Barton Planetarium to present full-dome movies through spring semester

Explore the depths of space and the mysteries of the cosmos at the Barton Planetarium which will host several activities this spring. The Planetarium is located in the Science Building on Barton Community College's campus. Enter through the sliding doors on the north side. Admission is free.

5K to benefit Camp Hope

Barton Community College's Community Service Organization and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society will host a 5K walk/run 8 a.m. Sunday, April 29. Registration will be at 7:30 a.m. in the Fine Arts circle drive at Barton. All proceeds will be donated to Camp Hope.

Barton Community College is hosting Enrollment Day sessions to prepare incoming students for the upcoming school year. Space is limited. Great Bend and Lyons schools earn Challenge Awards

TOPEKA - The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force has named 78 schools in 28 Kansas public school districts as recipients of the 2017 Challenge Awards. Recipients included two elementary schools in Great Bend USD 428 and three schools in Lyons USD 405.
