Barton baseball forces second title game

WICHITA - The No. 13 Barton Cougars forced a winner-take-all trip to the NJCAA World Series with a 16-7 victory over No. 8 Cowley College in Tuesday's first championship game. The Cougars added nine more runs after resuming the game Tuesday morning.

Electric cars win state

Great Bend High School students pulled ahead of the competition and in the process captured two state titles last weekend. Members of the Vocational Technology Club raced their electric cars on May 5 at Olathe and won the 2018 State Championship Series in two different classes of cars – standard and solar.

Barton recognizes Student Ambassadors of the Year

Barton Community College has announced its 2017-18 Brant J. Ballhorst Student Ambassador of the Year awards. Named in memory of Brant J. Ballhorst, the award recognizes two outstanding Student Ambassadors each year. The winners this year were Konner Ireland of Great Bend and Cynthia Torres of Liberal.

Barton Community College honors Outstanding Graduates at commencement

Carolina Temponi Goncalves of Brasilia, Brazil and Enrique Martinez Flores of San Salvador, El Salvador were named Barton Community College's 2018 Outstanding Graduates. Dean of Student Services Angie Maddy introduced them and presented their awards, after which they took the opportunity to address their fellow graduates during the college's 48th commencement ceremony Friday.

Hoisington Forensics students receive letters at awards banquet

HOISINGTON - At the 3A State Championship Forensic Tournament, four Hoisington High School students advanced in competition. Garrett Dykes placed ninth out of 49 in humorous solo acting and 13th out of 31 in impromptu speaking. Xavier Robinson and Trey Byers placed 10th out of 46 in improvised duet acting. Payton Dykes placed 14th out of 31 in impromptu speaking.
