Great Bend police responded to a rollover accident at the intersection of Morphy and 16th Street in Great Bend Thursday afternoon at about 3 p.m. A Pontiac Firebird was travelling southbound on Morphy street when it was struck by a Mercury Mountaineer heading westbound on 16th Street. Students at Park Elementary school Friday voted for their favorite among 11 menu proposals as offered by Eric Dowson's sixth grade class. For the past three weeks, the class has been studying the progressive era of the late 1890s to the early 1920s in American History. The period was marked by an increase in social activism, with sweeping changes brought forth such as the women suffrage movement and prohibition to name a few.

Early Response Teams help remove debris and make temporary repairs, reduce future damage and help to make buildings safe and reduce health hazards, observe and report victims needs and begin a caring ministry of listeners that help victims begin to heal.
Huelskamp discusses Kansas beef with Japanese Ambassador
WASHINGTON D.C. - Wednesday night, Congressman Tim Huelskamp (R-Kansas) was Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae's guest at the residence of the Ambassador of Japan. Japan recently raised the age cap on its beef imports from 20 months of age to 30 months. The U.S. Meat Export Federation projects this change will increase U.S. beef exports to Japan by 45% in 2013.

Fundraiser gives CAC a boost
Saturday morning, Applebees parking lot began to fill at 8 a.m. when winners of a silent auction held over the past few weeks arrived to pick up their treasures. Sarah Schenek , director of the Children's Advocacy Center, said the non-profit stands to receive around $12,000, at least three times as much as they anticipated when they learned they'd been chosen by Applebees as the local charity of choice.

Edna I. (Craig) Logan Francis, 99, formerly of Claflin, died Friday, May 17 at Woodhaven Care Center in Ellinwood. Born Nov. 5, 1913 near Caldwell, she was the daughter of Homer Francis and Katie Elmira (Siebenthaler) Craig.
TLC Twisters bring comfort to shelter dogs
The TLC Twisters 4-H club at TLC Discoveries built eight dog beds which they presented to the Golden Belt Humane Society last week. The beds, made of donated PVC pipe and nylon material, will provide a place for puppies and smaller dogs to relax off the cement floor. They are easily hosed off, and are quick drying, making them ideal for a kennel environment.
