Damon Family Foundation donates to vets memorial

A grateful Barton County commission Monday morning accepted a donation of $500 from the Damon Family Foundation to the Golden Belt Veterans Memorial. The funds are to be used to assist veterans who do not have the financial resources to pay for engravings on the Memorial, located in Golden Belt Memorial Park.

County attorney rejects school board recall petition

Barton County Attorney Doug Matthews late Friday afternoon rejected the petition filed to recall all the members of the USD 428 School Board, noting problems with the filing itself and because the allegations made were legally insufficient to warrant such action.

Petition filed to recall school board

A petition was filed with the Barton County Attorney's Office Thursday afternoon seeking the recall of all seven Unified School District 428 Board members. It asserts there was misconduct on the Board's part in its response to the alleged sexual assault that occurred on a district bus as it returned from a boys swim meet in Manhattan Feb. 6.

News conference planned on alleged sex assault case

The Barton County Sheriff's Office will hold a news conference at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the County Commission chamber on the first floor of the Barton County Courthouse, Sheriff Brian Bellendir said. The topic will be the alleged incident involving the Great Bend High School boys' swim team that occurred on a USD 428 school bus on Feb. 3.

Commission OKs bid for asphalt mixing
