Election results finalized

The Barton County Commission met early Monday morning as the Board of Canvasers to canvas the results of last Tuesday's general election. The totals reported as of the end of the evening on election night remained unofficials until this was done.

GOING WITH THE FLOW

Starting today, a stretch of West Barton County Road will be reduced from four lanes to two as crews begin to bury a concrete pipe beneath it. The work is part of a nine-month, $6 million project to improve the flow of water from the Arkansas River to Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area.

Farm Expo opens this week

It was a bright, brisk early spring afternoon at the Great Bend Expo Complex Thursday. The concrete slabs outside the metal buildings were already dotted with agricultural equipment as vendors started to trickle in for the second-annual Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo.

RSVP selling flowers for Memorial Day

This week marks the fourth-annual Senior Corps Week, an opportunity to thank Senior Corps volunteers for their service, said Donna Baugh, Volunteers in Action director. One way folks can become involved is by purchasing their Memorial Day flowers from the Retired Senior Volunteer Program this year. The flowers are on display at the RSVP office, 1025 Main, room D114 in Great Bend, and at the RSVP Thrift Store at 158 S. Main in Hoisington.
