Flu activity high in state, county

State health officials are reported that influenza activity is high in Kansas, activity that is echoed in Barton County. This has prompted the Kansas Department of Health and Environment and the Barton County Health Department to encourage everyone six months of age and older to get vaccinated, if they have not already done so this season.

Driver pleads guilty to Fiesta Bowl crash

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – At a sentencing hearing last Friday, the Maricopa County. Ariz., man charged with severely injuring two Great Bend men in Scottsdale, Ariz., attending the Fiesta Bowl a year ago, pleaded guilty to counts related to the crash. Joseph Spano, 28, was then sentenced to four years in prison and two years probation.

Fund funds could be restored

TOPEKA – Kansas Governor Sam Brownback's recommendation Tuesday that the state's Oil and Gas Depletion Trust Fund payments to county be increased came as good news to the counties most impacted by the fund. Now, if the Legislature gives its nod, a threatened lawsuit will likely be dropped.
