As of this past weekend, fire crews continued to work active fires across the state and they continued to monitor all fires for hot spots and flare-ups. According to figures from local county officials across the state, the estimated total number of acres burned now stands at over 1,000 square miles.

Commission to hold Monday morning meeting

The Barton County Commission will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Barton County Courthouse, 1400 Main in Great Bend. The agenda includes proclamations Great Bend High School Panther girls' bowling team as 5-1A girls state bowling champions and recognizing Colon Cancer Awareness Month, a extension district operational agreement with Ellis County, public fire safety awareness and 911 addressing issues in the county.
