HOISINGTON - Blanche R. Doonan, 88, died May 4 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center, Wichita. She was born Oct. 18, 1923, in Rush County, the daughter of Alex and Rosalia (Legleiter) Schaffer. She married Willard G. Doonan Nov. 5, 1939, at Russell. He died July 18, 2001. A longtime Hoisington resident, coming from Barton and Rush counties, she was a retired credit/layaway clerk for J. C. Penney's.

ELLINWOOD - Rob Zimmerman, 54, died Feb. 13, 2012 at his home in Ellinwood. Born July 17, 1957 in Ellinwood, he was the son of Robert M. Zimmerman and Beverly A. Blehm Zimmerman. He graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1975 and attended Salina Vo-Tech. On Feb. 17, 1995 he married Tammy Bownes in Las Vegas, Nev. A long-time resident of Ellinwood, he was an oilfield truck for Duke Drilling, hay hauler for Mike Ringwald, and employed by Fastrack Trucking in Raymond.
HAYS - Dennis E. Harper, 67, died Feb. 10, 2012 at the St. John's of Hays Nursing Home.

CLAFLIN - Claflin's quilting group, Twisted Stitchers, recently met for work sessions to make 95 receiving blankets for Barton County Health Department nurses to distribute at home visits along with vital Sudden Infant Death Syndrome prevention education. Nurses stress that babies should be swaddled correctly and always be placed on their backs and facing up to help prevent SIDS.

The Barton Community College Library will hold an art contest to determine the artwork for seven Cohen Center for Kansas History (CCKH) trivia pamphlets. Submissions can be done in any medium and must be postmarked by Nov. 10. Contest is open to all students, Barton employees and community members. Multiple entries are accepted.
