Deines Cultural Center anniversary

October 2013 marked the 23th anniversary of the opening of the Deines Cultural Center. In honor of the date, the Center is hosting a musical performance and reception, from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15th. The wood engraving prints and engraved blocks by E. Hubert Deines will be on display through the end of the year.

Fall is here

Last week, we were all reminded that fall is here, and winter is not too far off! As well as the snow that fell, we also had our first frost warning for Barton County of the season. This brings up the question, "What's the difference between a frost warning, a freeze warning and a hard freeze warning?" I looked up a little information on the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and this is their official definition.

Successful Parenting workshop

Raising children is one of the most important jobs a person will have during their life, but there are very few opportunities to receive parenting training. Join Donna Krug, Barton County Family & Consumer Science Agent, for a three part "Successful Parenting" workshop. Some of the topics covered include: self-esteem, communication and discipline. The workshop will be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. on Nov. 7, 14, and 21 at the Barton County Extension Office Meeting Room, 1800 12th Street, Great Bend.
