Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Valentine party

At Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation's Valentine party on Feb. 14, all residents were noted as kings and queens, however with a draw of names of residents attending event, LaVane Rohr and Claudine Ringwald represented them as king and queen. They were crowned as Walt Pennington entertained with music. All residents were presented a red rose compliments of Dillons and their customers and cookies and punch were provided by Epsilon Sigma Alpha (Zeta Gamma Chapter).

St. John native Kendra Hacker part of KU’s Black Box Productions

The University Theatre continues its 2013-2014 season with Black Box Productions, a showcase of student-directed short plays in the William Inge Memorial Theatre, Murphy Hall. Performances run at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14-15 and at 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 18-20 and Feb. 16 Participants include Kendra Hacker, of St. John.

Progress Club

The Progress Club met on Feb. 3, at the home of Linda Dougherty with Judy Turner and Pat Klusener as co-hostesses. Eighteen members attended. Kathy Schugart introduced the guest speakers: Sisters Anita Schugart and Cecilia Ann Stremel of the Heartland Center for Wholistic Health. They presented a program on Homeopathy and Natural Healing. Several remedies including vitamins, probiotics and the promotion of healthy living were discussed.

FBLA leaders appear before Kansas State Department of Education

It is not every day that high school students are summoned to appear before the Kansas State Department of Education. But then, these are not everyday high school students. Great Bend High School Future Business Leaders of America members Sarah Niederee, junior, and Zachary Reynolds, senior, traveled recently to Topeka to visit with state school board members during a special meeting and citizenship day. Sarah is the Kansas Future Business Leaders of America state president and Zach is the vice-president of the FBLA district 5 region.
