ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Recreation Commission has begun looking for a full-time director and will begin advertising for the position. The job begins on January 15, 2014 when the commission begins to collect its mill levy taxes, passed at the election in April. The commission has been meeting monthly to discuss and make plans for the upcoming year.

LONGMONT, Colo.- Ada Mae Marquis, 101, died on Sept. 23. She was born Ada Mae Mattal on Jan. 14, 1912, in Bison, to John J. and Sarah C. (Kleweno) Mattal. On May 16, 1929, she graduated from Bison High School. She also attended an all-girl Christian trade school in Kansas City. On June 30, 1938, she married Walter D. Marquis in Hoisington. She lived in Hoisington and Ellinwood before moving to Ogallala, Neb. in 1993 ...
ELLINWOOD - Building on a theme of reading fluency for preschoolers and kindergarteners through books, interactive games and on the computer, the Ellinwood School Community Library held a "Furry Friends" party showcasing the many programs the library has in place to achieve that goal. PAWNEE ROCK - The Hoisington High School Student Council recently spent the day at Praise Ranch in Pawnee Rock in a service learning project. Twelve students and Principal Meg Wilson assisted with clean up of the gymnasium at the old Pawnee Rock Elementary School.
