HOLYROOD - Interwoven with a story about his dog, Starbuck, who hid under the couch because he was bullied, Kevin Honeycutt, a technology integration specialist at Essdack in Hutchinson, talked to USD 112 students about using technology safely, using technology for learning, and kindness. Honeycutt travels throughout the U.S. with his presentation.
CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - A young female snowy owl was found wounded at Cheyenne Bottoms last week by Hoisington resident Dr. Dan Witt and taken to the Raptor Center in Great Bend where it later died during surgery.
HOISINGTON - Clara Barton Hospital held a community assessment meeting with Vince Vandehaar, owner of VVV Research & Development, Inc., to provide an overview of Barton County health needs on Monday night.
ELLINWOOD -Leon and Linda Sobba, longtime Ellinwood residents, were named the Ellinwood Rotary Club's 2012 Distinguished Citizens at the club's annual banquet. In addition, the club is celebrating its 75th anniversary, beginning on Dec. 1, 1936.
CLAFLIN - Don Cates and family have reopened The Ninety-Four Store Cafe, 200 E. Front St., Claflin, beginning last December. The hours are M-F from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m., serving breakfast and lunch.

ELLINWOOD - Ellinwood Grade School was awarded a Certificate of Recognition in the Challenge Award Program from the Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force. HOISINGTON - Like many small communities throughout the area, Hoisington currently has a shortage of Emergency Medical Technician volunteers. In an effort to address the shortage, Hoisington is offering a full scholarship to Barton Community College for tuition and books with a total value of $1200.
