ELLINWOOD - Since the early 1940s, the 3 Coin Club, a group of businessmen and farmers in Ellinwood has been meeting each day for coffee. Now mostly retired, they shoot the bull, tell tall tales also known as lies, and talk about sports and politics in the company of good friends every day for half an hour.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington residents, led by Teddy Williamson, have once again planted a community garden full of tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, brussel sprouts, carrots, herbs, beets, potatoes, corn, onions, sweet peas and strawberries.
HOISINGTON - Hoisington Activity Center's Director Rae Ann Hayes is leaving her position sometime this summer to move to Goodland. Her husband's family owns a farm there, and he intends to work it.

HOISINGTON - Engines will once again roar as adults try their hands at running a truck through the mud at the third annual Mud Run at 1 p.m. on June 2 in Hoisington in conjunction with the Kansas Mud Racing Organization. The cost is $5 with children 5 and under free. There will be concessions and a beer garden.
The American Legion of Kansas held its 94th annual convention in Great Bend this weekend in conjunction with the 92nd American Legion Auxiliary, and the Sons of the American Legion. The convention alternates each year between Topeka and Great Bend.
PAWNEE ROCK - On May 28, the city of Pawnee Rock will celebrate 125 years, beginning the day with a parade at 10 a.m. An event button will be for sale for $3 with different historic scenes. Activities are free with the button.
ELLINWOOD - A man that honorably served his country during Korea and paid with his life, Thomas Edward Cooney, will be remembered this Memorial Day with a flag folding and rededication of the war dead memorial at the Ellinwood American Legion. Cooney's name has been added to the memorial.

ELLINWOOD - From June through July, the Ellinwood school district will be offering free lunches for children ages one to eighteen at Ellinwood High School commons area from 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Recreation Commission hired its first ever director, Kyle Chamberlin who began last January, and the community has seen a whirlwind of activity since then. A Walking School Bus is where kids walk to school with an adult volunteer, and Riley School and USD 431 Hoisington received grants for Walking School buses.
ELLINWOOD - High school students participating in the St. Joseph PSR will be having a breakfast/brunch fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 19 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. Cost is a free will offering with proceeds going towards the PSR mission trip and local charities.
HOISINGTON - Ghouls, ghosts and goblins fill Hoisington's Haunted Heights Haunted House, and for those who want to shiver, shake and scream their way through this scary delight, the attraction opens at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-18, 24-25, and 31-Nov. 1.
HOISINGTON - In rural Kansas, a strong hospital is vital to a community and when a need arises, friends and neighbors pull together to make it work. When the need became apparent, the Hoisington community of 2,700 people, pulled together to expand a vital facility.
ELLINWOOD - From ales to ports, the third annual Ellinwood Craft Beer Festival celebrates the best beer the heartland has to offer. The beer connoisseur can sample 15 different regional beers, ranging from vanilla flavor to espresso to chocolate from breweries in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri at this year's event. It is from 2-8 p.m. on Oct. 18 and costs $25.
