Ellinwood American Legion chooses nephew of fallen Marine as Memorial Day speaker

LLINWOOD - The Ellinwood American Legion has chosen Richard Guyette as the featured speaker for the annual Memorial Day ceremonies. Guyette is the nephew of Thomas Edward Cooney who was born in Ellinwood, but died during the Korean Conflict at the battle of Chosin. His name has been long missing from the Legion war dead memorial.

Model rockets to be shot near Ellinwood

CLAFLIN - Equipped with a real car seat, four infant simulators made their way home with Central Plains High School - Claflin students since the first of the year. A total of 17 girls in the Human Growth and Development class each spent a weekend discovering what it is like to be a parent.

Snowy owl shot at Cheyenne Bottoms

CHEYENNE BOTTOMS - A young female snowy owl was found wounded at Cheyenne Bottoms last week by Hoisington resident Dr. Dan Witt and taken to the Raptor Center in Great Bend where it later died during surgery.
