Hoisington receives grant

HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council accepted by consensus a hazard mitigation grant to digitize mapping of the electric utility as a part of its regular meeting last week. The mapping project will cost $17,380.35 of which the grant from FEMA pays 70 percent. The city will pick up the remaining cost.

Ellinwood receives grant

ELLINWOOD - In a short city council meeting last Tuesday, City Administrator Robert Peter reported that Emergency Medical Services received a grant to purchase a second defibrillator. The grant will pay around $26,577 and the city will pay the remainder of $8,858.

Hoisington gears up for Safe Routes to School

HOISINGTON - Hoisington residents will soon have new, improved city sidewalks for walking or strolling through the Safe Routes to School Plan, which the city council approved at its regular meeting on Monday. The SRTS provides $250,000 in grant money to improve sidewalks and provide ADA sidewalk ramps.

Governor Brownback to come to Great Bend

Governor Sam Brownback will be coming to Great Bend on April 28 and will take a part in the Jack Kilby Plaza dedication, according the governor's spokeperson Sherriene Jones-Sontag. Kilby invented the integrated circuit or microchip.

Mystic Blues to rock to American Bandstand

ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood High School's Mystic Blues will rock at 7 p.m. Saturday to the retro tunes of American Bandstand in the auditorium. Homemade desserts will follow at the annual after dinner theater.

Swedish family moves to Barton Co. to spread message of Star of Hope

Yowell speaks to GBHS students and community leaders

Kansas' own son, Skip Yowell, was recently back in town to share his journey from small town boy to one of the founders of an international company. He spoke to the entrepreneurship class at Great Bend High School, juniors and seniors, and did a library presentation to community members.
