HOISINGTON - The Hoisington City Council discussed on Monday the date when Hoisington became an official city.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce is holding its 7th annual Ladies Night Out from 5 to 8:30 p.m. on April 7 in Ellinwood. There will be specials and discounts, drawings, give- aways and refreshments.
HOISINGTON- Roosevelt Elementary in Hoisington will have preschool pre-enrollment for next school year on April 11 from 5-7 p.m. This will be for any child that will be 3- or 4-years-old on or before Aug. 31, 2011. ELLINWOOD - "A night at the Movies," is this year's theme of the Ellinwood Mystic Blues After Dinner Theatre which will be held tonight and Saturday night.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood school board approved at its last meeting a bid from Bryant Construction for $82,320 for the construction a of bus garage subject to finding suitable land, according to meeting minutes.
State of Kansas Sen. Ruth Teichman, R-Stafford, Jay Emler, R-Lindsborg, and Representatives Bill Wolf, R-Great Bend, and Bob Bethell, R-Alden, were all at the legislative coffee on Saturday morning, and Wolf reported good news about the intersection at U.S. 281 and K-19, south of Great Bend.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood District Hospital is holding a series of community meetings seeking input into options for renovating or replacing the hospital and clinic. They are also asking the community if they want to leave things as they are and do nothing.

BARTON COUNTY - Historic limestone bridges built in the late 1930s and early 1940s by the Works Progress Administration in northern Barton County may once again echo with the sounds of chisels, concrete being poured and reconstruction, as plans are being drawn to repair the old bridges.
ELLINWOOD - The Ellinwood Recreation Commission hired its first ever director, Kyle Chamberlin who began last January, and the community has seen a whirlwind of activity since then. The commission continues to dream big and have proposed renting the second floor of Sunflower Bank for use as a fitness facility.
HOISINGTON - Starting out the day with fresh air and exercise prepares energetic kids for learning and school. Hoisington now buzzes with activity in those early morning hours that once saw mostly vehicle traffic.
A Walking School Bus is where kids walk to school with an adult volunteer, and Riley School and USD 431 Hoisington received grants for Walking School buses.
ELLINWOOD - High school students participating in the St. Joseph PSR will be having a breakfast/brunch fundraiser from 9 a.m. to noon on Oct. 19 at St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood. Cost is a free will offering with proceeds going towards the PSR mission trip and local charities.
HOISINGTON - Ghouls, ghosts and goblins fill Hoisington's Haunted Heights Haunted House, and for those who want to shiver, shake and scream their way through this scary delight, the attraction opens at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 17-18, 24-25, and 31-Nov. 1.
HOISINGTON - In rural Kansas, a strong hospital is vital to a community and when a need arises, friends and neighbors pull together to make it work. When the need became apparent, the Hoisington community of 2,700 people, pulled together to expand a vital facility.
ELLINWOOD - From ales to ports, the third annual Ellinwood Craft Beer Festival celebrates the best beer the heartland has to offer. The beer connoisseur can sample 15 different regional beers, ranging from vanilla flavor to espresso to chocolate from breweries in Colorado, Kansas and Missouri at this year's event. It is from 2-8 p.m. on Oct. 18 and costs $25.
