Local gas prices are still in the middle

Local motorists who had traveled around the state over the past weekend reported to the Tribune that they found significantly lower prices on gasoline in other parts of the state, especially in Wichita, and according to an Internet site that tracks fuel prices, there are several points in Kansas where gasoline is lower-priced than the common local price, at $2.66.

The Great Bend Police Department received several reports of criminal damage to property last Friday and into the weekend. Reports included graffiti, broken windows and slashed tires.

Hudson man stabbed, woman arrested

HUDSON - A 38-year-old Hudson man, Jon Richardson, was stabbed several times on Aug. 12. Pamela Pratt, 37, was arrested in connection with the assault. Richardson was reportedly taken by ambulance to the Stafford County Hospital in Stafford, then flown to Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.

Local authorities have enlisted the help of the Kansas Bureau of Investigation in locating a teenage Great Bend girl missing since Saturday night.

County, city, release $100,000 to Red Barn

It appears that there have been enough new jobs added to Red Barn Pet Products since the operation opened in the former Great Bend Packing facility south of Great Bend that more than $57,000 in county funding will be released. However the Barton County Commission is seeking proof that the jobs were created before that money is released, it was decided Monday.

State jobless numbers show modest drop

According to July 2010 estimates from the Kansas Department of Labor, Kansas businesses gained 1,700 jobs over the year, a 0.1 percent increase. This marks the first over-the-year gain for total non-farm employment since October 2008.

Golden retrievers, Labradors, weimaraners and those of mixed descent, also known as mutts, dug their day in the sun at the Great Bend Aquatic Center swimming pool on Saturday, all in an effort to raise money for the Great Bend dog park at Veteran's Memorial Park.
