Fashionistas of Barton County

The annual 4-H Fashion Revue, leading up to the 2013 Barton County Fair, brought glamour to the catwalk at the Crest Theatre in Great Bend Monday evening. Participants in the buymanship and clothing construction projects were spotlighted as they followed the yellow brick road. Club members modeled outfits they painstakingly built with an eye towards economy, and the garments they constructed with attention to detail and creativity in the weeks and months leading up to the show.

Homemade explosives lead to arrest

The Wichita Police Department's bomb squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) were called to the Highland Hotel after homemade explosive devices were found late Friday. A Great Bend man allegedly threw one at a man, but it didn't go off.

Help sought for July 4 display

To celebrate Independence Day on July 4, the City of Great Bend - along with Sunflower Diversified Services and many other sponsors - will host a Community Fireworks Display at the Great Bend Expo Complex. The show is choreographed to music, and will begin at dusk. Sunset will take place at approximately 9:02 p.m., and the show will begin as soon as it is dark enough (around 9:33 p.m.).
