Help sought for July 4 display

To celebrate Independence Day on July 4, the City of Great Bend - along with Sunflower Diversified Services and many other sponsors - will host a Community Fireworks Display at the Great Bend Expo Complex. The show is choreographed to music, and will begin at dusk. Sunset will take place at approximately 9:02 p.m., and the show will begin as soon as it is dark enough (around 9:33 p.m.).

State issues warning for Vets Lake

After sampling Veterans' Memorial Lake in Great Bend for toxic cyanobacteria, commonly called blue-green algae, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has placed the lake under a "public health warning," the KDHE announced Friday.

Great Bend police made a narcotics arrest at 1:38 a.m. Saturday in the 2200 block of Jackson Street, after a driver allegedly failed to use her turn signal.

Man reports knife attack

A 20-year-old man told Great Bend police he was battered by someone carrying a knife, around 9:46 p.m. Friday in the area of 19th and Holland St. He did not know the subject. An aggravated battery case was taken.
