Commission hears power line update

The developers of the an electrical transmission line to move wind-generated power through Barton County told the County Commission Monday morning they should have a route determined in a matter of months. Representatives of Clean Line Energy Partners also addressed some concerns raised by the multi-billion-dollar project.

Future of Sheriff’s Office building discussed

The Barton County Commission Monday morning approved using $2,000 from the county's Capital Improvement Funds to pay for repairs to the roof of the Barton County Sheriff's Department Administrative Building.

HOI breaks ground on new housing project

On Wednesday, March 27, Housing Opportunities, Inc. Board of Directors and staff celebrated the ground breaking of Bedford Place LLC, their 12th income based, affordable rental property. Bedford Place will be an income based rental property for seniors, age 55 and over, and the disabled.

College trustees watch legislation in Topeka

Barton Community College President Dr. Carl Heilman said he's hoping the Legislature will adopt Gov. Sam Brownback's budget as it concerns funding for higher education. The governor has proposed to keep state support at last year's level.

Nick Taylor decided in the eighth grade that he wanted to play high school sports. Because he was born with disabilities that kept him wheelchair bound, he knew right away all contact sports were out. That left tennis and golf as possibilities.

F.O.P funds new tools for C.A.C.

Crisis City: GBFD sends 10 firefighters

SALINA - The training is intense at Crisis City, a hands-on All Hazards Emergency Response Training Center west of Salina. Great Bend Fire Department sent five firefighters for training on Tuesday, and five more on Wednesday, Capt. Travis Parmley said.

Farm expo coming to town

The 2015 Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo will be held Wednesday through Friday, April 8, 9, and 10, 2015 in Great Bend. The show is located at the Expo Complex west of town. The show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 8th, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on the 9th and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th with extended hours on Thursday.
