Historical Society celebrates Ghosts of Christmas Past

The prototype for the Charlie Brown Christmas tree could have come from the Great Plains. Sometimes the "tree" was little more than a decorated branch, but it wouldn't do to let the holiday go by unobserved. A dangerous target

Road and Bridge Department Director Dale Phillips held up a stop sign before the County Commission Monday morning, a sign that had been keeping motorists safe in the northeast part of the county until a vandal had used a shotgun to blast two big holes in the sign large enough to put a fist through.

Commission OKs repair to damaged bridge

In June, a county bridge south of Cheyenne Bottoms was damaged when a motorist left the roadway and plowed into it. Monday morning, the Barton County Commission approved having the bridge repaired and suing the driver to recoup the cost of the project.

Santa’s bag dwarfed by scammers’ bag of tricks

The holiday season is an active time for everyone and that definitely includes the unscrupulous. In their efforts to gain advantage over consumers, fraudsters will do anything short of climbing down your chimney this December, said Denise Groene of the Better Business Bureau of Kansas. The bureau advises that consumers educate themselves about the many schemes in use through the holidays, especially those involving social media.
