Although enrollment at Barton Community College's Great Bend campus declined by about 6 percent, the college saw an overall 6 percent enrollment increase in the summer and fall of 2011, compared to the same time in 2010, college officials announced.
ELLINWOOD – Two years after a devastating earthquake rocked impoverished Haiti, Ellinwood-based Star of Hope has completed repairs and structural improvements in its schools and children's homes damaged in the disaster, said Star of Hope President Barry Borror. Thursday marked the second anniversary of the trembler.
At least two Barton County residents have received telephone calls this week from someone identifying themselves as being with Pittsburg State University asking questions about, among other crimes, the Alicia DeBolt murder and the man set to stand trial in the case, Adam Longoria. However, officials at PSU said they have no record of anyone at the college conducting such an inquiry. A Barton County resident had also e-mailed PSU asking about the questionnaire.

ELLINWOOD - Following a Town Hall on Thursday at the Ellinwood District Hospital, Kansas Secretary of Revenue Nick Jordan made a visit to the historic Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 5 miles north of town. Tax credits administered through the Kansas Historical Society will reimburse 27 percent of the cost of restoring the former church's iconic steeple, said Ryan Robl from the Sts. Peter and Paul Heritage Association.
ELLINWOOD - Kansas is in a good fiscal position, Secretary of Revenue Nick Jordan said Thursday at an Ellinwood Chamber Town Hall. One of his key points on Kansas tax policy is that the state ended Fiscal Year 2014 with $434.6 million cash-on-hand.
The Barton County Road and Bridge Department will be doing asphalt work at the intersection of Washington Ave. and 30 Road on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 22-23. The intersection will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, or until the project is completed.
