Gas prices starting to fall

Despite wide fluctuations in crude oil prices, average retail gasoline prices in Kansas have fallen 2.5 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.80 Sunday. This compares with the national average that has fallen 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.80, according to gasoline price website

Black-out to benefit United Way

The Great Bend High School Kayettes will sponsor a "black-out" for United Way of Central Kansas during the Oct. 12 football game against arch rival Hays at GBHS's Memorial Stadium. However, orders for the black event T-shirts are being taken now, said UWCK Executive Director Julie Bugner-Smith.

Work to limit traffic on 10th Street

Venture Corporation will be milling and patching 10th Street from Kansas to Frey streets starting at 7:30 a.m. today, the Great Bend Street Department announced. This means traffic will be limited to only the outside lanes going both directions.

P-51 Mustang returns to Great Bend Air Fest

P-51 pilot Larry Lumpkin is no stranger to Great Bend. During the Jack Kilby Square dedication in June, he flew his P-51 over the county building in an aeronautical display. He returns to the Bend Friday afternoon for the Great Bend Air Fest. Joining him will be pilot Jeff Linebaugh. Together, the two will be available all weekend to talk about the Warbird and give private rides in the Mustang fighter. Price tag for 15-minutes: $1,500.
