College holds open house for Student Union, training center

Barton Community College employees showed visitors some of the latest improvements Thursday. During an open house for the fully renovated Student Union, the college also invited people to look inside the mobile training center for Barton's natural gas transmission and distribution program. The mobile unit is the first of its kind.

Great Bend Co-op building 4,000 ton dry shed

A new 40-foot structure will rise south of town at the Great Bend Co-op facility over the next few month. Last Wednesday, the Great Bend Co-op broke ground on what will become a 4,000 ton dry shed. The new shed will increase their capacity to six times its current size when completed. They will continue to use the existing 800 ton shed in the meantime.

Vandalism reports in Great Bend

Great Bend police received reports of criminal damage to property at two locations on Saturday morning. Someone threw paint on the side of the house at 1208 Morphy St., and someone spray painted the Funtime Bingo building at 2805 Ninth St.

St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend will accept out-dated and broken electronic items for recycling from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 30. The church is located at 21st and Jackson St. This project is being done in cooperation with the Barton County Landfill, which also accepts "e-waste."
