Evening celebration planned for Kilby sculpture unveiling

When "The Gift" sculpture is unveiled on April 28 in the courthouse square, it will be at night. Special lighting will illuminate three bronze figures, which are the centerpieces of the Jack Kilby Memorial Plaza.

Play Ball: GBRC board tours GB Sports Complex

Great Bend Recreation Commission Board members took a tour of the new Great Bend Sports Complex on Monday. The ball diamonds and facilities are in use now, with a May 8 grand opening planned by the city.

​Man reports being pulled from car, kidnapped; car set on fire

A Great Bend man told police he pulled from a car, beaten, and then driven into the country late Saturday. At 5 a.m. Sunday, the car he was driving was found burning on an oil lease road north of Great Bend. The Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff's Office and State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating.

Becoming ‘Organ Wise’

First grade students at Eisenhower Elementary School ended the day Friday in a special assembly courtesy of Barton County Extension Agents Bernie Unruh and Donna Krug. Forty-five boys and girls crowded into the classroom where they met "Miguel," the Organ Wise Kid, and several organs in his body, including his heart, brain, lungs, intestines and many more.
