Art appreciation

Four large oil-painted murals from Bank of the West have been donated to the Barton Community College Foundation. The murals by artist Pat Potucek were moved to the college's Shafer Gallery on Wednesday.

President declares disaster for Kansas

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency announced Thursday that federal aid has been made available for the state of Kansas, including several Golden Belt counties, and ordered Federal aid to supplement state and local recovery efforts in the area affected by severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, and flooding during the period of April 14-15.

BCC falls short on performance agreement

Failing to show enough improvement on certain goals for 2011 will cost Barton County Community College money, President Dr. Carl Heilman said. The exact amount is not yet known, but BCC will only receive 80 percent of its share of any "new money" allocated by the Kansas Legislature this year, because of its scores on the latest Kansas Board of Regents Performance Agreement.

Hoisington to host Mud Run

HOISINGTON - Engines will once again roar as adults try their hands at running a truck through the mud at the third annual Mud Run at 1 p.m. on June 2 in Hoisington in conjunction with the Kansas Mud Racing Organization. The cost is $5 with children 5 and under free. There will be concessions and a beer garden.

Farm expo coming to town

The 2015 Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo will be held Wednesday through Friday, April 8, 9, and 10, 2015 in Great Bend. The show is located at the Expo Complex west of town. The show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 8th, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on the 9th and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th with extended hours on Thursday.
