Rolling Sculpture Car Show part of June Jaunt

The Rolling Sculpture Car Show will roll into the Barton County Historical Society and Village on Saturday, June 2, as one of the K-96 June Jaunt events. Owners of exotic, antique and classic cars are invited to display them among the historic structures in the village, said Beverly Komarek, executive director of the historical society.

Area bank customers receive fraudulent calls

Area banks have been inundated with phone calls from customers saying they have received calls or texts on their cell phones from an unknown number stating that they wouldn't be able to use their debit cards until further notice. There was also a link that said they could enter their account info and it would give them more information.

Man captured after pursuit

An Ellinwood man was able to temporarily elude law enforcement officers after a motorcycle pursuit Wednesday evening in Barton County. At one point in the pursuit, suspect Nicholas Curtice, 29, laid the Honda motorcycle over and a female passenger rolled away from it, but refused medical treatment and was released at the scene.

Pioneer Day

Third graders from Great Bend's public schools got a glimpse of Kansas history on Wednesday when they traveled to the Barton County Historical Museum and Village for Pioneer Day. Barton County Historical Society members, some dressed in old-time apparel, guided 241 students from Jefferson, Lincoln, Eisenhower, Park and Riley elementary schools through nine stations.

Storms bring power outages

Beginning at 11 p.m. Thursday, powerful thunder storms rolled through the Golden Belt and brought down over 300 power poles, Midwest Energy reported Friday morning. The areas impacted hardest were primarily South of K-96, from Jetmore in the west to just west of Hutchinson in the east.

Farm expo coming to town

The 2015 Great Bend Farm and Ranch Expo will be held Wednesday through Friday, April 8, 9, and 10, 2015 in Great Bend. The show is located at the Expo Complex west of town. The show hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on the 8th, 9 a.m.- 7 p.m. on the 9th and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on the 10th with extended hours on Thursday.
