Longoria attorneys still want venue change

Attorneys for Adam Longoria are still trying to get his upcoming jury trial moved to a location outside of Barton County. On Wednesday, defense attorneys in the capital murder case filed a supplement to a previous motion seeking a change of venue, noting, "media coverage of this case has continued since the defendant's (earlier) filings."

United Way leading Harveyville recovery effort

The small Kansas community of Harveyville was devastated by an F-2 tornado which damaged more than 40 percent of the community on Tuesday, Feb. 28, killing one and injuring 13 others. In the aftermath of the storm, more than 1,600 volunteers have rallied to help the citizens clean up debris.

​No easy answers for pool issue

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees may vote to shut down the 45-year-old swimming pool in the next three years, or it may look for more ways to finance costly maintenance and repairs. The options were discussed last Thursday at a board study session, and could be on the agenda as action item at the May 28 meeting.

Questions arise on BCC board vacancy

The Barton Community College Board of Trustees may not be able to appoint a replacement for trustee-elect Bob Mead, who died on May 4, as quickly as planned. Great Bend attorney Brock McPherson said that because he received the most votes after Mead in the April election, he should be the person who fills the post when it becomes vacant in July.
