There will be a new face at the K-State Research and Extension Barton County office next week. Jennifer Carr will join the Great Bend staff of the as an agriculture and natural resources agent, effective Monday.

Barton County’s Got Talent guest acts announced

In its third year, the Barton County's Got Talent fundraiser is anticipated to draw about 500 people and raise about $10,000 for Barton County's chapter of Habitat for Humanity. The dinner theater is a spin-off of the network television show "America's Got Talent" and features a variety of local performers. A winner and a runner-up are selected by a panel of local judges with backgrounds in various areas of the performing arts.

New Year's baby girl delivered Monday at GBRH

Alicia Bryant went to bed on New Year's Eve prepared to greet a typical New Year's Day. The expecting mother awoke before 7 a.m. knowing immediately that this New Year's Day would be different. She spent the rest of the day and night in labor at Great Bend Regional Hospital before giving birth early Monday morning.

KBI: Cocaine seized in drug raid

Officers seized approximately half a pound of cocaine, with a street value around $14,000, during a drug raid Wednesday in Great Bend, according to a statement from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation. Search warrants were issued as a result of a six-month joint investigation by the KBI, Great Bend Police Department, Barton County Sheriff's Office and Ellinwood Police Department.

Zoo gets 2 parrots

Two Eclectus parrots arrived at the Great Bend-Brit Spaugh Zoo on Tuesday - a green male named Jazz and a red female named Ruby. The birds were a gift from Cameron Park Zoo in Waco, Texas.

Vandalism reports in Great Bend

Great Bend police received reports of criminal damage to property at two locations on Saturday morning. Someone threw paint on the side of the house at 1208 Morphy St., and someone spray painted the Funtime Bingo building at 2805 Ninth St.

St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend will accept out-dated and broken electronic items for recycling from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 30. The church is located at 21st and Jackson St. This project is being done in cooperation with the Barton County Landfill, which also accepts "e-waste."
