'Person of interest' in shooting arrested, but on unrelated charge

The Barton County Sheriff's Office has arrested a "person of interest" in last Saturday's shooting death of Damon Galyardt. No one has been charged in the 25-year-old Great Bend man's death, which is being investigated as first-degree murder, and no one is considered a suspect.

Pratt man shot accidentally

At about 1 a.m. Tuesday morning, there was an accidental shooting. A Pratt man, 27-year-old Adam Koch, was treated at Great Bend Regional Hospital with pellet wounds to his wrist and nose.

QNWR closed to hunting

Beginning Monday, Nov. 14, Quivira National Wildlife Refuge will be closed to hunting until further notice due to the continued presence of whooping cranes.
