State suspends Great Bend day care
TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment last Wednesday suspended the licence for Schloemer Day Care Home, a licensed day care facility operated by Annette Schloemer located at 1027 Garfield, Great Bend.
GBPD probes drive-by shooting
A warrant has been issued for a Great Bend man as a suspect in the Sunday morning drive-by shooting in southeast Great Bend, Great Bend Police Chief Dean Akings said. Meanwhile, the Great Bend Police Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.

High-speed police pursuit ends in fatal crash
A rural Great Bend man died Saturday morning after a police pursuit ended in a head-on collision with a semi-trailer. Kansas Highway Patrol reports Ryan L. Byers, 21, died at the scene in Rice County. The semi was driven by Scott D. Zwick, 51, of Lyons, who was taken to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Hoisington teen dies in two-vehicle collision
The Barton County Sheriff's Office is investigating a head-on collision that claimed the life of a Hoisington teenager, Wednesday on U.S. 281 near the 4-H Building. Tyler James Wilson, 19, was transported to Clara Barton Hospital by ambulance and was later pronounced dead, due to injuries suffered in the crash.
